Three prevailing weather systems are expected to bring cloudy skies and rainy conditions over large parts of the country from now December 31 until New Year’s Day, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In an interview on dzRH’s Magandang Umaga Pilipinas, weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the Easterlies, Shear Line, and Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) will continue to influence the country’s weather, resulting in periods of rain across several regions.
Aurelio said provinces affected by the shear line—including Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes—will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the Easterlies will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Visayas, Palawan, the rest of the Bicol Region, Mindanao, and the remaining areas of MIMAROPA.
The Northeast Monsoon, on the other hand, will affect Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, particularly during the evening and early morning hours.
Wind and Coastal Water Conditions
PAGASA said no rough sea conditions are expected, as wave heights are forecast to remain moderate. However, the weather bureau cautioned fishermen and those planning to travel by sea to remain alert, especially in areas where thunderstorms may develop suddenly.
At present, PAGASA reported that no tropical cyclone or low-pressure area is being monitored inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
