Three suspects involved in the theft of camera cables used for the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) in Guadalupe, EDSA, Makati City, were arrested on Friday, June 27.
RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort reported that Makati City Police Chief PCol. Reycon L. Garduque confirmed the arrest to DZRH and added that two other suspects are still being pursued by authorities.
Report also stated that the value of the stolen cables is in the hundreds of pesos, and the items have already been recovered by the authorities.
The Makati City Police is currently preparing to file theft charges against the arrested individuals.
In an exclusive interview on Damdaming Bayan on Friday, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Atty. Romando Artes said that other areas in Metro Manila have also experienced cable theft, including a stoplight along Quezon Avenue that lost its signal after its cables were stolen.
Artes clarified that the stolen cables were fiber optic wires and not the usual copper wires that are sold at a higher price.
"Maaring may value pero hindi po ganoon kamahal ito, akala po siguro nila since medyo mataba po yung wire niyan, baka akala nila po nila ay puno ng tanso," said Artes.
He added that repairs are ongoing for the affected cameras and the stoplight, and that steps are being taken to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
