Three siblings died after they were electrocuted inside their apartment in Barangay Piñahan, Quezon City on Friday night, July 10.
According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the victims were a 19-year-old Grade 12 student and his two younger sisters, aged 15 and 12.
Initial investigation showed that the 15-year-old girl was hanging freshly washed clothes on a steel clothesline at the balcony of their apartment when she was electrocuted.
Hearing her screams, her two siblings rushed to help her but were also electrocuted while attempting to rescue her.
Another sibling who witnessed the incident immediately sought help from neighbors.
The incident was also reported through the city’s 122 emergency hotline, prompting personnel from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO), together with Barangay Piñahan responders, to immediately respond to the scene.
The three victims were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center but were later pronounced dead. Authorities said they died from cardiac arrhythmia secondary to electrical injury.
An ocular inspection conducted by Meralco found that the apartment’s circuit breaker, which was connected to an air conditioner compressor, was grounded.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident and are reminding the public to ensure that household electrical systems are properly installed and maintained to prevent similar accidents.
