

Three people—a couple and a senior citizen—died after being trapped in their burning home in San Mateo, Rizal.
According to an initial investigation, it is possible the victims lost consciousness due to suffocation after inhaling the thick smoke emitted by the flames consuming their two-story house in Sta. Maria Subdivision, Ampid 1, as reported by RH 5 Val Gonzales.
The married couple were identified as a 28- and 30-year-old, and the senior citizen, a female. The couple’s remains were found at the comfort room of the house, while the elder woman’s body was discovered at the stairs.
The San Mateo Rizal Fire Station revealed the fire began around 2 a.m. on Sunday, July 6. The victims were awake but unable to escape due to the intensity of the blaze, which spread quickly. Due to this, the neighbors could also do nothing to help, said Fire Officer 3 Phil John Gustilo, an arson investigator.
The father of one spouse, 74, made a narrow escape after leaping from the second floor.
He is currency being treated for first-degree burns at the East Avenue Medical Center.
