As the House of Representatives opened plenary deliberations on the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday, members of the Duterte family in Congress, including Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, Davao City 2nd District Representative Omar Vincent Duterte, and Pwersa ng Pilipinong Pandagat Party-list Representative Harold James Duterte, were present in the session.

The lawmakers are expected to vote on the matter after interpellations and debates conclude later in the day.

House Justice Committee Chair Gerville Luistro earlier said that members of the Duterte family in the chamber are free to participate in the plenary debates and express their positions ahead of the voting on the impeachment complaint against the Vice President, according to a report by RH Milky Rigonan on Monday.

Luistro said the House Justice Committee is prepared to answer all questions that may be raised during the interpellation period.

She added that she would read the full committee report before the plenary, while the House Committee on Rules would determine the voting procedure and the process for lawmakers who wish to explain their votes on the floor.

Paolo Duterte is the son of former President Rodrigo Duterte, while Omar Vincent Duterte represents Davao City’s 2nd District and is the son of Congressman Paolo Duterte. Harold Duterte, meanwhile, is the nephew of the former president.

Outside the plenary hall, members of the People’s Impeachment Movement and allied groups held a gathering and program at the People’s Center inside the Batasan Complex in anticipation of the House vote on the impeachment case against Vice President Duterte.

Following the program, members of the group marched toward the House plenary hall shortly before the 3 p.m. session, calling on lawmakers to support the impeachment of the Vice President.
