The Bureau of Customs (BOC) confirmed that they had secured 28 luxury vehicles owned by the family of contractor Sarah Discaya, following a series of seizures and voluntary surrenders this week.
In a statement on Thursday, the BOC said that 16 additional high-end cars were turned over by the Discaya family, adding to the 12 vehicles earlier confiscated from the St. Gerrard Construction General Contractor & Development Corp. compound in Pasig City last Tuesday.
"Today, September 4, the Discaya family surrendered 16 additional vehicles, on top of the 12 vehicles earlier secured through a court-ordered search at the St. Gerrard Construction General Contractor & Development Corp. compound in Pasig City," BOC wrote in a post.
The first batch was secured through a court-issued search warrant.
All 28 vehicles are now under sealing and verification as the BOC and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) conduct an investigation into possible smuggling activities and unpaid import duties.
In an interview with DZRH on Wednesday, Discaya’s camp maintained that the vehicles were lawfully acquired and fully registered.
The development comes just days after Discaya, who has been linked to alleged irregularities in government flood-control projects, admitted during a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing that her family owns 28 luxury cars.
The BOC stressed that the case forms part of its broader crackdown on illicit vehicle imports, reiterating its commitment to safeguard revenue collection and enforce customs laws.
"We are committed to pursue the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., to combat smuggling, protect government revenues, and ensure accountability through lawful customs processes," the agency stated.
