Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of a South Korean national whose body was found inside his abandoned vehicle in General Tinio, Nueva Ecija last week.
The victim was discovered on June 17 inside a parked car, seated on the passenger side and wrapped in a blanket. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
According to Nueva Ecija Provincial Director Police Colonel Ritchie Claravall, the suspects were identified and arrested through intensive follow-up operations and backtracking efforts aided by closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that traced their movements.
Police investigation revealed that the victim was a businessman engaged in the beauty products trade. One of the suspects, identified only by the alias "Maymay," allegedly owed the victim around ₱1 million, which investigators are considering as a possible motive behind the crime.
Central Luzon Regional Director Brigadier General Jess Mendez said CCTV footage played a crucial role in identifying and tracking down the suspects.
Claravall added that the alleged gunman was the former boyfriend of the female suspect.
Authorities also recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the killing, as well as the getaway vehicle used by the suspects. The gun reportedly matched the bullet recovered from the crime scene based on forensic examination.
The two suspects are currently under police custody and have been charged with murder.
