Two minor students were apprehended after authorities discovered an improvised caliber .38 firearm and a kitchen knife in their possession during a routine inspection at the Aparri School of Arts and Trade in Cagayan on Friday morning, police said.

According to a "Breaktime" report by RH Edniel Parrosa, personnel from the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company conducted a routine bag inspection inside the school premises at around 11:00 a.m. in the presence of school officials.

During the inspection, authorities recovered an improvised caliber from a 15-year-old Grade 10 male student and a kitchen knife from a 14-year-old Grade 8 male student. Both items were found inside their backpacks.

Initial investigation showed that both students allegedly admitted to cutting classes and cited personal grudges as the reason for bringing the weapons to school. Authorities emphasized that the case remains under further investigation.

The minors were immediately taken into custody and later turned over to appropriate government agencies for intervention and processing in accordance with child protection laws, according to the police.

Earlier, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla reported that a 14-year-old student from Tolosa, Leyte, was released after being taken into custody over alleged online threats of a school attack, with authorities later finding no evidence of an actual plan or imminent danger.

The incident comes days after a shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City allegedly involving two minors aged 14 and 15, which left three students dead and 20 others injured, according to earlier police reports.
