Two pyroclastic density currents (PDC) events were logged at the Mayon Volcano on Friday, announced the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

According to PHIVOLCS, the first event began at 12:40 p.m. and the second at 2:05 p.m. Both lasted about a minute, with volcanic materials traveling up to 300 meters from the collapsed lava front along the Bonga Gully, which faces southeast.

In addition, the volcano generated brownish-gray plumes that rose 3,000 meters before drifting southwest. It is currently under Alert Level 3, and entry into the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) must be prohibited, PHIVOLCS advised.

Alert Level 3 indicates increased magma movement and the possibility of eruptions.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) said in a statement that it currently has personnel deployed in nine of the 12 evacuation centers within and around the 6-kilometer radius, which currently shelters families affected by the heightened alert status.
