Two police officers were temporarily relieved from their posts following a viral incident wherein a patrol car obstructed traffic flow along Taft Avenue, Manila.
In a press conference held in Camp Crame, Ermita Police Station Commander PLtCol. Alfonso Saligumba III reported that the two patrolmen were relieved pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation into the incident, reported RH 52 Edniel Parrosa on Thursday.
Based on the video, the police mobile appeared to have deliberately blocked a motorist from crossing the intersection due to an alleged dispute. The patrolmen were allegedly provoked when the motorist honked his horn at them, because they had cut in front of him.
Aside from this, the patrolmen were caught stopping the vehicle on a pedestrian lane before resuming movement at a red light.
“The personnel involved have already been evaluated and were temporarily relieved from their posts pending the outcome of the investigation. At this stage, the incident remains under investigation—all facts are being carefully evaluated, including the statement of the personnel involved and other available evidences gathered,” Saligumba said.
The patrolmen’s alibi was that the vehicle experienced a malfunction or technical glitch due to temporary flooding.
The vehicle has been taken to the Manila Police District’s (MPD) repair shop for an inspection. Meanwhile, the driver’s license of the patrol car driver was also confiscated.
