Two people were injured after a portion of a two-story house collapsed along Sevilla Street in Barangay 272, San Nicolas, Binondo, Manila, on Thursday night, October 1.

The Manila Public Information Office (PIO) said five people were trapped inside the collapsed structure, including the two who sustained injuries.

The two injured victims were identified as a 13-year-old boy and a 29-year-old woman.

The 13-year-old boy sustained bruises on his right arm and a lump on the right side of his head. He was brought to the Mother and Child Hospital for medical attention.

The 29-year-old woman was also injured and was brought to a hospital for treatment. Further assessment and documentation of her medical condition are ongoing.

The three other individuals who were trapped inside the structure, aged 5, 26, and 51, did not sustain any injuries, according to the Manila PIO.

Longtime resident Elena Malakas, 77, said the house was around 70 years old, RH Tina Nolasco reported on DZRH’s Dos Por Dos.

According to Manila PIO, the victims were trapped inside the collapsed structure and were subsequently extricated by the husband of a nearby store owner, with the help of bystanders.

Residents said the owner of the house and several family members, including a senior citizen, were not inside the house when the incident occurred as they had gone to church.

Authorities are also looking into the possibility that construction work being done on the adjacent house may have contributed to the collapse.

As of Friday morning, a portion of Sevilla Street remained closed to motorists. Clearing operations had yet to begin, while authorities continued to restrict entry into the old house as they assessed the area.

The Manila PIO said city government agencies continue to coordinate their response to ensure the safety and welfare of affected residents.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the collapse.
