The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has suspended two female immigration officers who allegedly engaged in a physical altercation at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Tuesday evening, September 22.
Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Eric Ines ordered the preservation of CCTV footage from both the MIAA and the Bureau of Immigration covering the area where the incident occurred.
Ines described the incident as unfortunate and embarrassing, particularly because it happened in front of passengers.
Based on the initial investigation, the confrontation reportedly began when one immigration officer asked her colleague to remind the latter’s partner, who was allegedly her former partner, to provide financial support for their child.
The discussion escalated into a heated exchange, followed by hair-pulling and slapping in front of passengers.
The two immigration officers were temporarily removed from their posts while the investigation continues. Authorities also recommended the cancellation of their airport access passes.
