Thick smoke blanketed the area as residents assisted firefighters by passing buckets of water in an effort to contain the fire. Response efforts were hampered by narrow alleys leading to the burning houses, slowing access for fire trucks and rescue teams.
The fire, which began around 6:45 a.m., spread from Purok 2 to nearby Purok 3, fueled by light construction materials and strong winds.
Authorities said the situation worsened as multiple LPG tanks inside homes exploded during the blaze, triggering successive blasts heard across the neighborhood.
The BFP said at least 16 fire trucks initially responded, later increasing to 37 units including volunteer responders as operations continued. Drone monitoring was deployed to assess the extent of the damage.
One resident was injured during the incident and later treated for burns, according to fire officials.
By 10:05 a.m., authorities confirmed two injured individuals: a 50-year-old man who sustained second-degree burns and a teenager struck by a piece of roofing material. Both were given first aid by BFP medical teams and local emergency responders.
Some residents were seen sitting helplessly as their homes burned, while others managed to salvage personal belongings.
One resident, identified as Antonette, said she was grateful to neighbors who alerted her by repeatedly throwing objects at her house to wake her family as the fire broke out while they were asleep.
Officials said they have yet to determine the number of houses destroyed and the total number of families affected as firefighting operations remained ongoing several hours after the blaze started.
