Two people were killed while several others were injured after a chain-reaction vehicular accident involving multiple vehicles and pedestrians along A. Bonifacio Avenue near the corner of Gen. Julian Cruz Street in Barangay Barangka, Marikina City, on Saturday morning, April 25, 2026.
Based on the initial report from Marikina City Police Station (CPS), the incident occurred at around 11:00 a.m.
Police said the accident began when a Toyota Wigo driven by a 48-year-old electrician was traveling eastbound along A. Bonifacio Avenue when it was hit on its right side by an Isuzu dropside truck coming from behind.
The impact reportedly caused the truck to lose control and continue forward, striking a Toyota Fortuner traveling westbound. The force of the collision triggered a series of impacts involving additional vehicles, including another Toyota Fortuner and an Isuzu rebuilt truck, before the truck eventually crashed into a sidewalk bollard.
Authorities said the bollard was destroyed upon impact, and the truck subsequently struck six pedestrians before coming to a complete stop.
Two pedestrians were declared dead at the scene. They were identified as a 9-year-old boy and a 26-year-old man. Several others, including another child and multiple adults, sustained injuries and were brought to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The truck driver, a 48-year-old man, is currently under police custody while his passenger was also injured in the incident.
Other motorists involved in the collision were not reported to have sustained life-threatening injuries, but their vehicles suffered significant damage.
The accident also affected a nearby food establishment, Mac Jolly Fried Chicken, and a residential structure in the area, according to police.
First responders from the Barangka Police Sub-Station led by PMSg Atendido secured the scene and assisted in the evacuation of victims.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and to establish possible liabilities.
