Two Chinese nationals were seized at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) over counterfeit exit clearances on August 11, said the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
According to Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado, Li Jiangcheng, 29, and Liao Weibin, 39, are “overstaying aliens” who were caught during redundancy records verification for departing passengers, said the BI’s immigration protection and border enforcement section (I-PROBES).
The two were attempting to leave the country for Singapore. They had falsified their documents to evade detection.
“Everything is electronic now. Illegal aliens who think that they can use fake documents in this modern day and age are mistaken,” Viado declared.
Records indicate that Li has been overstaying since 2022, following employment in a tech company in the country; Liao previously worked in a trading corporation but has failed to update his visa since 2023.
Both were handed over to the border control and intelligence unit and are facing deportation charges due to violating Philippine immigration laws.
Viado said the agency has launched an investigation into the individuals who may have aided in their acquisition of the false documents.
