Two bodies were discovered floating along Marikina river on consecutive days, July 30 and 31.
In a report by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa, both bodies spotted by residents were of shirtless males.
The first, with a tattoo behind his right shoulder, was found by Malanday National High School. The remains were identified by police as Jimry Verdida’s, age 20, a resident of Bulacan.
According to Marikina Chief of Police Pol. Col. Geoffrey Fernandez, Verdida was last sighted in Rizal on July 27.
“Huli siyang nagpuntang (unclear) sa Montalban dahil may isang I think kaibigan na nangyayaya na may lamay sa patay doon,” Fernandez told DZRH.
(He last went to Montalban because I think a friend of his was inviting him to a wake there.)
The second body, wearing only black shorts, was found under Sto. Niño Bridge around 4:20 in the afternoon.
This prompted retrieval operations carried out by River Parks Development Office personnel alongside Marikina Rescue 161.
The Marikina police have launched an investigation into the identity of the said man. To quicken identification, the Marikina Rescue 161 is coordinating with neighboring cities.
It is worth noting that there have been no reports of missing persons in the city, even during the peak of recent storms and the accompanying Southwest Monsoon or “Habagat.”
In addition, no external injuries have been found on either body, which may indicate they died due to drowning, reported Parrosa.
Fernandez assured that these two incidents are not connected.
