The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) dismantled an alleged illegal petroleum trading operation in the Bunawan district of Davao City on October 10, arresting two individuals.
According to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, the operation in Budbud, Bunawan, targeted an alleged fuel siphoning, or “paihi,” scheme and the illegal trading of petroleum products.
Authorities seized a tanker truck and four drums of diesel during the operation. The confiscated vehicle and petroleum products were brought to a DOE storage facility pending appropriate legal and regulatory proceedings.
The DOE warned that improper handling, transportation, storage and distribution of petroleum products could pose serious risks to people, property, businesses and the environment, including fires and other safety incidents.
The agency said it remains committed to ensuring energy security, enforcing regulatory compliance, promoting fair competition and protecting consumers.
