The state weather bureau on Tuesday raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 in parts of Batanes and Babuyan Islands as Typhoon Goring continues to exhibit strength.

Based on its latest monitoring, PAGASA said the center of the eye of Typhoon Goring was at 180 kilometers (km) East of Aparri in Cagayan province.

Goring is packed with maximum sustained winds of 155 km per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 190 kph while it is accelerating northwestward at a slow rate.

The state weather bureau said the typhoon is foreseen to maintain its strength while it passes close to or make landfall in the vicinity of Batanes by Wednesday morning and afternoon.

PAGASA is also not ruling out the possibility that Goring may re-intensify and reach the super typhoon category again.

TCWS No. 3 is raised in the areas of:

  • The southern portion of Batanes (Sabtang, Uyugan, Ivana, Mahatao, Basco)
  • The northeastern portion of Babuyan Islands (Babuyan Island)

PAGASA warned that areas under Signal No. 3 may experience storm-force winds that poses significant threat to life and property.

TCWS No. 2 is in effect in the following areas:

  • The rest of Batanes and Babuyan Islands
  • The extreme northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga)

The aforementioned areas may also feel gale-force winds that may result in minor to moderate threats to life and property.

TCWS No. 1 remain hoisted in:

  • The northern and eastern portions of mainland Cagayan (Camalaniugan, Pamplona, Santa Teresita, Baggao, Buguey, Claveria,
  • Aparri, Ballesteros, Abulug, Sanchez-Mira, Santa Praxedes, Allacapan, Lal-Lo, Lasam, Peñablanca, Iguig, Amulung, Gattaran, Alcala, Santo Niño)
  • The eastern portion of Isabela (Dinapigue, San Mariano, Ilagan City, Tumauini, San Pablo, Cabagan, Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan)
  • The northern portion of Apayao (Flora, Calanasan, Luna, Pudtol, Santa Marcela)
  • The northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Vintar, Pasuquin, Burgos, Dumalneg, Adams, Pagudpud, Bangui)

Strong winds are expected to be felt in the areas under Signal No. 2

The state weather bureau noted that TCWS No. 4 may possibly be raised in Extreme Northern Luzon.

According to PAGASA, Goring will continue to move mainly northwestward or west northwestward across the Luzon Strait before it leaves the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, gusty conditions will still be experienced in Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Camiguin, and most of Zamboanga Peninsula due to the enhanced southwest monsoon.
