At least 19 people have been reported dead in various parts of the country as the southwest monsoon, or habagat, and successive tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay brought heavy rains and severe weather, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Tuesday, August 11.

According to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, the NDRRMC said most of the reported fatalities were recorded in Luzon, with Benguet accounting for 12 deaths,

Nine of the fatalities in Benguet were caused by a landslide in Baguio City, while two died in a landslide in La Trinidad and one in Atok.

Rizal province also recorded four deaths. Two were killed in a landslide and another was struck by a falling tree in Antipolo City, while one person drowned in Binangonan.

Batangas reported three fatalities — one from drowning, one from electrocution in Lipa City and another from a landslide in Santa Teresita.

The NDRRMC said more than 15 people were also reported injured, while four others remained missing.

Authorities continue to monitor affected areas and assess the extent of damage caused by the successive weather disturbances.
