

Seventeen flights were canceled, while operations at the General Santos Airport were temporarily suspended following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao on Monday, June 8, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced.
Besides the earthquake, the CAAP noted that the temporary suspension of airport operations was also due to the tsunami warning issued by PHIVOLCS.

A notice to airmen (NOTAM) is in effect from 8:45 AM to 3:00 PM today, the CAAP said.
“Assessments of air navigation facilities, equipment, and operational capabilities are currently underway to ensure the continued safety and integrity of airport operations,” its statement read.
“Passengers are advised to coordinate with their respective airlines for updates on the status of their flights,” it added.
The PHIVOLCS initially reported a magnitude 7.0 earthquake around 7:37 AM on Monday, and it was later upgraded to magnitude 7.8 at 8:41 AM.
PHIVOLCS Director Teresito Bacolcol said the epicenter was located about 13 kilometers south-southwest of General Santos City.
