One hundred percent of the country’s cities and municipalities now have ambulances, following the distribution of 1,640 units over the past three years, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) General Manager Melquiades Robles said.

In an interview on Dos Por Dos, Robles emphasized that the priority of the PCSO is to ensure that every local government unit (LGU)—regardless of size or resources—has the capability to transport patients safely.

“When you move one patient to one point to another, ‘yon naman ang pinaka-basic dyan eh,” Robles said.

“Ang mahalaga ay 100% na lahat ng ating mga munisipyo at siyudad sa Pilipinas ay meron nang ambulansya,” he added.

Robles said the PCSO reached the milestone on December 2, after completing the distribution to Metro Manila mayors—who were the last recipients due to their relatively larger resources.

He noted that many small municipalities had long struggled to secure medical transport.

“Kung maliit na bayan ka, hindi ka masyadong nagkakaroon ng ganyang biyaya,” he said, adding that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has repeatedly instructed agencies not to politicize healthcare assistance. “Kailangan lahat magkaroon niyan [ambulansya].”

Robles also clarified the guidelines for LGUs seeking an ambulance donation, explaining that local councils must first pass a resolution authorizing the mayor to receive the unit and commit funds for its maintenance, which is why ambulances are not turned over to barangays.

“Ito ang mahalaga rito kaya hindi natin ito binibigay sa mga barangay kasi magcocommit sila ng funds nila para ma-maintain ito,” he said.

The PCSO General Manager underscored that the achievement represents full “mobile medical mobility,” ensuring that every LGU now has the capacity to move patients in emergencies.
