

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a total of 15 cases of indiscriminate firing across the country during the holiday season, with four of these incidents involving police personnel.
According to a report on dzRH's Damdaming Bayan by RH Edniel Parrosa, the data came from the monitoring activities of Ligtas Paskuhan 2025, covering December 16, 2025, to January 1, 2026.
Based on the PNP report, two incidents occurred in Ilocos Sur and Iloilo, while the remaining cases were recorded in Isabela, Benguet, Manila, Surigao del Sur, Pampanga, Abra, Parañaque, Cagayan de Oro, Negros Occidental, Catanduanes, and Batangas.
Of the 15 cases of indiscriminate firing:

Six occurred on Christmas Day

Three on New Year’s Eve

Two on December 22

One each on December 18, 19, 21, and 31
These incidents resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals, while three remain at large.
Among the cases involving police personnel:

A Police Master Sergeant in Surigao del Sur

A Police Senior Master Sergeant in Iloilo

Two patrolmen from Parañaque and Cagayan de Oro
Three of these officers have been arrested, while the patrolman in Cagayan de Oro remains at large.
Earlier, acting PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. warned that any police personnel found responsible for indiscriminate firing during the holidays would face criminal and administrative charges, which could lead to dismissal from service.
On a wider scale, the PNP reported 984 firecracker-related incidents during the holiday season, resulting in 440 injuries, 29 arrests, and the confiscation of nearly 100,000 illegal firecrackers as of the first day of the new year.
