The 14-year-old suspect fired the majority of the shots during the June 22 school shooting in Tacloban City, while the 15-year-old suspect discharged a firearm only once, according to the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8).
In a text message, PRO-8 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy said initial findings indicate that the majority of gunfire came from the younger suspect, although authorities have yet to determine the exact number of shots fired.
“15 yrs old 1 putok lang base sa ating kaalaman, yung 14 kanya na galing lahat. Di specific yung number of shots,” Capoy said.
Despite this, the 15-year-old suspect is expected to face multiple charges in connection with the incident. The 14-year-old, meanwhile, will undergo intervention under the country’s juvenile justice framework, which emphasizes rehabilitation.
The shooting occurred inside a school campus, identified as San Jose National High School, prompting heightened security measures across Tacloban.
Classes at San Jose National High School remain suspended, while other schools in the city have resumed operations under tighter security protocols.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered commanders nationwide to increase police visibility around schools, intensify preventive patrols, and conduct comprehensive security assessments to ensure student safety following the incident.
Authorities have yet to release further details as the investigation continues.
