Fourteen additional witnesses dubbed as “maleta boys” are set to attend the next hearing of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee under the panel led by Sen. Pia Cayetano.
Former congressman Mike Defensor said the new batch of witnesses will appear before Cayetano’s bloc, which is conducting a separate inquiry into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
The development was earlier confirmed by lawyer Levito Baligod, who represents the witnesses, in an ambush interview with DZRH News.
Baligod said the 14 individuals would testify at the next hearing but did not initially specify which panel they would face.
“Sa susunod na hearing,” Baligod said.
Earlier in the day, 18 individuals identifying themselves as former members of the Philippine Marine Corps went to the Senate but did not attend the hearing conducted by the bloc of Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian.
The so-called “maleta boys” are alleged to have knowledge of the distribution of cash-filled suitcases supposedly linked to flood control projects now under Senate investigation.
