The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) through the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Hong Kong on Monday underscored the Philippine government’s coordinated response in ensuring the safe return of Filipino workers from Iraq, following the arrival of 13 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and one infant in Manila.

In an online statement, the MWO said the repatriation was carried out through close coordination among Philippine posts abroad and migrant worker agencies, highlighting efforts to provide assistance at every stage of the journey.

The group arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on April 27 after transiting through Hong Kong, where they were personally assisted by officials from the Philippine Consulate General and the MWO.

The DMW said it directed the MWO in Hong Kong, under the guidance of Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, to extend necessary support during the OFWs’ layover, including airport facilitation and basic needs such as food.

Upon their arrival in the Philippines, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration’s Repatriation Assistance Division provided additional support, including airport assistance and welfare services.

The MWO said the operation reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Filipino workers abroad, particularly those requiring repatriation from challenging environments.

“The safe, orderly, and dignified return of our OFWs remains a priority,” the agency said, noting the importance of inter-agency cooperation in responding to the needs of migrant workers.

The department added that it continues to monitor the situation of Filipinos overseas and stands ready to extend assistance when necessary.
