The Department of Energy (DOE) announced on Tuesday that twelve oil companies will enforce a temporary price freeze on fuel products in areas placed under a state of calamity (SOC) due to the combined effects of the recent typhoons and the habagat or southwest monsoon.

In a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, the DOE stated that the automatic price freeze covers kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as mandated by law.

“The DOE requested the inclusion of diesel in the price freeze effective for 15 days starting from the date of SOC issuance,” the department stated.

The DOE also confirmed that oil companies will implement a price rollback on gasoline this week, from July 29 to August 4, as part of proactive measures to ease the burden on communities affected by recent weather disturbances.

The price of gasoline will be rolled back by ₱0.10 per liter, while diesel and kerosene will increase by ₱0.60 and ₱0.40 per liter, respectively.

However, diesel and kerosene price increases will not apply in areas under a declared state of calamity, as the price freeze will remain in effect there.

"On the other hand, the gasoline price rollback will be implemented nationwide, regardless of calamity status," the DOE emphasized.

As of July 29, a total of 193 cities and municipalities across the country have been placed under a state of calamity, according to the report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
