House Lead Prosecutor Gerville Luistro praised her fellow prosecutor, Rep. Joel Chua, for effectively conducting the direct examination of two LandBank officials who testified during Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial.
During a press conference, Luistro gave Chua a grade of “11 out of 10” for his handling of the direct examination of former Land Bank of the Philippines managers Violeta Constantino and Nenita Camposano.
“I wish to commend Congressman Chua for having successfully concluded his direct examination to both witnesses,” Luistro said.
The Senate impeachment court on Wednesday formally began examining evidence related to the alleged misuse of confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd), which is covered under Article I of the articles of impeachment.
Luistro noted that lawmakers have not been actively engaged in litigation for some time, making Chua’s performance in examining witnesses particularly commendable.
“You have to understand that we are lawmakers, we are members of the House, and it's been quite a while na wala kami sa litigation. And yet these members of the House are showing their courage to once again engage in examination of witnesses, and this is only for one thing, dahil sa pagmamahal sa bayan,” she said.
Luistro congratulated Chua for his handling of the testimonies, saying his performance demonstrated the lawmakers’ commitment to pursuing the case in the interest of the country.
“Congratulations to Congressman Joel Chua,” she said.
