Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicolas Torre III said Tuesday that the 11 new mobile pumps acquired by the government will help mitigate flooding in areas across Metro Manila affected by heavy rains.
Torre said the 11 mobile pumps to be deployed across the National Capital Region (NCR), each with a pumping capacity of one cubic meter per second, are currently undergoing field testing and inspection.
"Gusto ko siguruhin na ang pump magtrabaho muna para mawala na yung floods sa area," Torre said during an interview on DZRH's Magandang Umaga Pilipinas.
"11 itong bago namin, 11 kaka-deliver pa lang... hindi pa ito bayad ng gobyerno. Kaya sabi ko na, subukan talaga siya. Every time na mag-breakdown, pinapadokumento ko kasi sabi ko, 'pag ito breakdown ng breakdown, hindi natin bibilhin. Pera ni Juan dela Cruz ito, kailangan mapakinabangan ni Juan dela Cruz," he noted.
Torre told DZRH that the units are also undergoing documentation before their final acceptance and payment by the government.
He said the mobile pumps will be deployed to areas experiencing severe flooding to allow the MMDA to respond more quickly and help reduce floodwaters.
