At least 11 areas in the Philippines were forecasted to reach a dangerous level of heat index of 42 degrees Celsius and above on Tuesday, April 2.

According to the state weather bureau PAGASA, the following areas were expected to have heat index ranging from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius:

  • Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City- 42°C
  • Dagupan City, Pangasinan- 43°C
  • Aparri, Cagayan- 43°C
  • Puerto Princesa City, Palawan- 42°C
  • Aborlan, Palawan- 43°C
  • Central Bicol State University of Agriculture in Pili, Camarines Sur- 43°C
  • Roxas City, Capiz- 44°C
  • Iloilo City, Iloilo- 43°C
  • Dumangas, Iloilo - 43°C
  • Catarman, Northern Samar- 42°C
  • Cotabato City, Maguindanao - 42°C

Baguio City and Benguet State University in La Trinidad had the lowest forecasted heat index of 26 °C.

PAGASA said the heat index is the human discomfort index that gives the "apparent" temperature, or what humans perceive or feel as the temperature affecting their body.

The effect-based danger classification ranges from 42°C to 51°C, and its effects on the body are that heat cramps and exhaustion are likely, and heat stroke is probable with continued exposure.

Symptoms of heat-related illnesses include sweating heavily, exhaustion or fatigue, dizziness, blacking out, weak but fast pulse, nausea, and vomiting.
