A 10-wheeler truck crashed into an electric post along Ortigas Extension in Pasig City early Thursday morning, February 12.

According to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa on Dos Por Dos, the front portion of the truck was heavily damaged, and chunks of cement from the electric post were scattered across the area following the incident, which which happened earlier at around 3:00 a.m.

The truck was carrying asphalt, but authorities confirmed that the load did not spill onto the road. Aside from the damaged post, several electrical wires connected to it were also affected.

Initial investigation revealed that the truck, which was traveling eastbound toward Rizal, allegedly lost its brakes. In an attempt to avoid causing greater harm and steer toward a safer, lower area, the driver swerved across to the westbound lane, where the vehicle slammed into the electric post.

The driver was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment after he sustained a hand injury and complained of back pain.

Meanwhile, on a normal day, traffic from Rizal heading toward Pasig and Quezon City is already congested. Authorities warned that congestion would worsen due to ongoing clearing operations by Meralco and the Pasig Traffic Bureau.

Traffic enforcers were unable to immediately open the zipper lane, which is typically implemented to help ease daily traffic.

“Imbes na magpapabuka dapat, gagawin ng zipper lane, aantayin muna [ma-clear ng Meralco,” a traffic enforcer said.

As of 8:30 a.m., the 10-wheeler truck had not yet been removed from the road. Traffic along Ortigas Extension remains heavy as the Pasig Traffic Bureau continues to manage the situation.
