A one-year-old girl drowned after falling into a well in Barangay Katigbian, Bayaloang, Northern Samar, in a tragic incident that has left the community in shock.

According to a report by Jayne Galit Bantayan, initial reports showed the child was under the care of her mother’s sibling at the time, as her mother had asked the relative to watch over her while she went to deliver food to her husband working in the farm.

However, the caregiver reportedly did not notice the child leaving the area. The toddler was later found floating inside a well.

A Barangay Health Worker (BHW) said the victim was immediately brought to the Barangay Health Unit for first aid before being transferred to a hospital in Romualdez, Northern Samar.

Rescue personnel also attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while the child was being transported to the hospital. However, doctors later declared her dead on arrival (DOA).

Authorities have not yet released further details as investigations into the incident continue.
