One person has been reported dead in the Region 11 or Davao Region following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Manay, Davao Oriental, on Friday morning, October 10, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said.

According to RH Edniel Parrosa’s report from the OCD in Camp Aguinaldo, the agency said that the fatality was struck by falling debris, though no additional details have been disclosed.

"For Region 11, we received [an] initial report of 1 dead victim due to falling debris, so this is subject for validation," OCD Deputy Administrator Asec. Raffy Alejandro said.

Earlier, the Regional Civil Defense Office reported that the victim was a male resident of Mati City, Davao Oriental, the first confirmed casualty from the quake.

Authorities also reported minor structural damage across parts of the Davao Region, as well as in several areas in Mindanao and the Caraga Region.

Among the affected facilities was the Francisco Bangoy International Airport (Davao International Airport) in Davao City. However, Alejandro clarified that the airport remains operational and sustained no major damage requiring suspension of operations.

"The airport is still operational, wala pong canceled flights sa Davao City," Alejandro said.

He added that reports of infrastructure damage were also received from several institutions in Davao City.

"May nareceive kami from Davao City. Sa Ateneo De Davao may mga damages sa facility sila, damage ceilings . Sa Davao City Mapua Malayan colleges reported some damages in their facilities may mga cracks," he noted.

According to PHIVOLCS, as of 1:00 p.m., a total of 179 aftershocks have been recorded following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that shook Davao Oriental.
