The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasted that one to two tropical cyclones would enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this December.
Weather specialist Obet Badrina explained that during this month, typhoons usually pass through the Visayas and northern Mindanao, or sometimes recurve and do not make landfall in the country.
According to PAGASA’s current forecast, the next typhoon is expected to be named ‘Wilma’, which would be the 23rd tropical cyclone of the season in the PAR.
The last time the Philippines reached the letter W was in 2013, the same year super typhoon Yolanda struck.
PAGASA encourages the public to stay updated on typhoon developments and official weather advisories, especially during the holiday season, as conditions can change rapidly.
