PPA suspends sea travels due to Super Typhoon Mawar

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) on Friday, May 26 suspended several sea travels in the provinces of Cebu and Southern Leyte that were scheduled this weekend in preparation for the threat of Super Typhoon Mawar.

In separate advisories, PPA said the following trips are suspended:

ALD Sea Transport’s LCT Poseidon 17 and LCT Poseidon 35

  • From Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte to Lipata, Siargao (Suspended on May 26 at 12 nn)

Seacat One’s Grand Ferries

  • From Cebu City to Calbayog (Suspended on May 27 at 2 pm)
  • From Calbayog City to Cebu City (Suspended on May 28 at 8 pm)

PPA also suspended the operations of MV RMLC Ferry 1, that will come from Baseport, Legazpi to Rapu-Rapu, Albay, on May 27 to give way for the feast day of Sta. Florentina, the patron of Poblacion, Rapu-Rapu, Albay.

“Pinapayuhan ng Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) ang lahat ng apektadong pasahero na makipag-ugnayan sa concerned shipping lines para sa karagdagang detalye,” the ports authority said.

In its latest tropical cyclone advisory issued at 10 AM, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that Super Typhoon Mawar was located 1,705 km East of Southeastern Luzon. It has a maximum sustained wind of 215 km/h and gust of up to 260 km/h.

Super Typhoon Mawar is moving west at 20 k/m and may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday evening or Saturday morning.

According to the state weather bureau, “strong to gale-force conditions are possible over the northern and eastern portions of Northern Luzon mainland.”
