LTO to receive over 2 million plastic cards for driver’s licenses
by Ada Pelonia29 March 2024

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will receive more than two million plastic cards for driver’s licenses in May.

This came after one million plastic cards were delivered to the agency’s central office following the lifting of the writ of preliminary injunction ordered by a Quezon City court.

In a press release, Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista said the upcoming delivery would reduce the backlog on plastic-printed driver’s licenses.

“After 45 days after the delivery of the one million, there will be around 2.2 million more plastic cards that will be delivered. So this will be enough to address the backlog on driver’s license,” Bautista said.

The transport secretary added that the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) would also inspect the plastic cards.

“There added security features which the LTO knows and at the same time, we also want the DOST to check if these plastic cards would last up to 10 years because as you all know, 10 years na maximum validity ng ating mga driver’s license,” Bautista said.

Bautista also directed the immediate download of the remaining two million plastic cards and apologized to the public for the long wait.

“Napakatagal na ang pinag-hintay ng ating mga kababayan kaya nararapat lamang na maibigay ito sa kanila sa lalong madaling panahon,” he said.

“We apologize to all our affected kababayan for this particular inconvenience and we assure that we are doing everything to address the backlog and to prevent the repeat of this incident,” Bautista added.
