The Light Rail Transit-1 (LRT-1) will not operate from March 27 to March 31, its operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) announced on Monday, March 18.

"LRT-1 operations from Baclaran Station to Fernando Poe Jr. Station and vice versa will be temporarily suspended from March 27 (Holy Wednesday) to March 31 (Easter Sunday).," the advisory read.

LRMC said the temporary suspension was made to facilitate the annual preventive maintenance activities and the mandatory testing activities related to the Alstom signaling system for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project.

"The first day of the no-operations period will be dedicated to the train movement simulation from LRT-1 Cavite Extension stations to the existing LRT-1 Gil Puyat Station," LRMC Chief Operating Officer Rolando J. Paulino III said.

"For the remaining days, our engineering team will conduct the essential maintenance activities to allow us to improve capacity and performance across the line, enabling us to serve our LRT-1 passengers with a better, more reliable transport system,” he added.

Meanwhile, the LRMC assured that regular operating hours would be maintained on March 25 (Holy Monday) and March 26 (Holy Tuesday). The last commercial trips on these days will depart at 10:00 p.m. from LRT-1 Baclaran Station and 10:15 p.m. from LRT-1 Fernando Poe Jr. Station.

LRT-1 will resume regular operations on Monday, April 1, at 4:30 a.m. as usual.

Commuters are advised to arrange their travel schedules appropriately throughout Holy Week to minimize any disruptions during the temporary suspension of operations.
