Controlling inflations remain top worry for majority of Filipinos - OCTA poll

The majority of Filipinos want the Marcos administration to control the rising prices of basic goods and services, according to the results of OCTA Research's latest survey released on Friday, April 19.

The poll, which was conducted from March 11 to March 14, showed that 66 percent of the 1,200 respondents answered controlling inflation as their top urgent national concern.

Access to affordable food, and improving wages for Filipino workers both ranked second pressing concern for Filipinos at 44 percent.

Placing third and fourth was creating more jobs (33 percent) and reducing poverty (30 percent), respectively.

The respondents also chose the following concerns they deemed that the Marcos admin should act on:

  • Providing free quality education - 18 percent
  • Fighting graft and corruption in government - 12 percent
  • Enforcing the law on all whether influential or ordinary people - 9 percent
  • Fighting criminality - 7 percent
  • Reducing the amount of taxes - 7 percent
  • Stopping the destruction and abuse of our environment - 5 percent
  • Defending the integrity of Philippine territory against foreigners - 4 percent
  • Controlling population growth - 3 percent
  • Controlling the spread of the COVID-19 virus - 2 percent
  • Protecting the welfare of OFWS - 2 percent
  • Preparing to successfully face any kind of terrorist threat - 1 percent
  • Changing the constitution - 1 percent

Meanwhile, 71 percent of the respondents answered that staying healthy and avoiding illnesses were their top urgent personal concerns.

This was followed by having enough food to eat every day (57 percent), finishing school or providing schooling for children (44 percent), and having a secure and well-paying job or source of income (38 percent).

Other top personal concerns were avoiding being a victim of serious crime (34 percent), able to have savings (32 percent), and having their own house and lot (23 percent).
