Three Filipinos suffered minor injuries in the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit Taiwan on Wednesday morning, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.
In a public briefing on Thursday, DMW officer-in-charge Hans Leo Cacdac said one of the Filipinos suffered a minor head injury due to a collapsed ceiling, the other sustained a swollen hand, and another fainted during the earthquake.
Of the three, two have already been discharged while the Filipino who fainted is still confined as of writing.
"Pero stable siya, in good condition. Precautionary medical measures ang sinagawa sa kaniya, just to be sure," Cacdac noted.
Injured Filipinos will also receive financial assistance from the national government, according to the DMW OIC. The department is currently coordinating with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taiwan to distribute the aid.
The DMW official also said that no Filipino has sought assistance yet to get repatriated after the earthquake.
A REUTERS report said that the number of people injured in the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in eastern Taiwan climbed past 1,000 on Thursday while the death toll remained steady at nine, with dozens of workers on their way to a hotel in a national park mostly now found safe.
President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. earlier assured assistance and support to Filipinos affected by the strong earthquake in Taiwan.
"We stand ready to assist and support our fellow Filipinos in Taiwan in any way possible during this difficult period," Marcos said in an X (formerly Twitter) post.
