The Philippines' "Big Four" universities made it to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2023 that was released on Thursday.

According to the rankings, the University of the Philippines placed 412th, slipping 13 spots lower than its position the previous year.

The Ateneo de Manila University also fell to the 651-700 bracket, down from its 601-650 ranking a year ago.

Meanwhile, the De La Salle University and the University of Santo Tomas remained in their positions in the 801-1,000 slots.

The QS World University Rankings includes 1,500 institutions across the world. It bases its rankings on six categories or indicators, including:

  • Academic reputation
  • Employer reputation
  • Faculty/student ratio
  • Citations per faculty
  • International faculty ratio
  • International student ratio

In the latest rankings, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, United States placed first.

It is followed by the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, and then by Stanford University in the US.
